This is Meteor Crater from near our campground. Here we are, camping in the total middle of nowhere. There is a campground with some trees, but when you go to the outskirts of the campground you can see forever - nothing! There are mountains in the distance, but nothing else! One good thing about this environment is the sunset and sunrise! Another is the vast amount of extremely bright stars at night! Beautiful! We're here at Meteor Crater Park about 30 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona. Did you know that when
you see a "shooting star" that the meteorite that is burning up making that bright glow is only the size of a pin tip? Amazing! The crater can fit about 20 football fields, but the meteoroid that caused it, they say, was only about 150 feet in diameter.Erik at Meteor Crater.
